Sales Associate
I was contacted by a third-party recruiter about a door-to-door sales position with a base salary and commission. The base salary was about $31,000 annually, increasing to $41,000 within six months. I interviewed with the recruiter, and then she sent me to meet with the HR Lady at CBeyond. The HR Lady was nice, and the office seemed cool. She explained the position and showed me their commission structure. I was hesitant about the 'cold-calling,' which involved going door-to-door to sell products to small businesses. Despite my reservations, I accepted an offer for a job shadow day at their Anaheim office. I arrived early, and the office was full of young adults. Some seemed immature, and they referred to one person as 'T-Bag,' which gave me a negative first impression. I attended a sales meeting where they discussed upcoming group outings, which seemed like a positive aspect. After observing their phone calls and speaking with some reps, I went on a job shadow with a sales representative. We barely took a lunch break, which struck me as odd. We encountered her manager at The District in Irvine during lunch. I noticed the rep had to constantly check in with her manager via phone calls throughout the day, suggesting micromanagement. The day was described as 'ridiculous,' with negative feedback from potential clients. The company had a '5 after 5' policy, requiring employees to get five business cards after 5 pm, meaning they wouldn't return to the office until after 6 pm and often stayed until 7 pm to complete reports. The products were described as overpriced. The company provided an old Blackberry for communication, which seemed like a way to constantly monitor employees. I was then called for a second interview with a VP, which started late and the interviewer was reportedly smug and rude. Overall, the impression of the people and the work environment was negative.
- Given $5,000, what would you do with the money, assuming you can't save or invest it?
Sales Associate
The recruiting manager called me first for a preliminary phone chat, asking about my interest in the job and my knowledge of the company. Then, I had a face-to-face interview that was pretty direct. They asked specific questions to see if I really wanted to work there, considering the tough sales environment in every way. You have to be 100% sure you're willing to work 12-hour days.
- What is your interest level in the job position?
- What do you know about the company?
- Do you have what it takes to deal with the hardships of the job?
Sales Associate
So after the first two interviews, the phone one and the onsite one, which were both pretty chill, there's like a ride along. It's basically another interview to see how you do in the field. Then, you meet with an executive. If they like you, you get the job, but you gotta do two weeks of training. That training is kinda like an extended paid interview where they check if you can actually do the work and learn stuff. You get tested daily and go out to see how well you perform.
