First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Canada Revenue Agency.
Taxpayer Relief Officer
I had a Zoom interview with BC Family Maintenance Agency. We talked about the job duties, my past experience, and how I handle problems. I also answered some questions based on different situations. It was a professional and organized online interview that took about 45 minutes, with one interviewer.
- What is your motivation for wanting to join the CRA?
Masters Student CoOp
It was a two-round interview process. The first round was with the hiring manager for a technical discussion. Most of the questions were based on my resume, focusing on the projects I'd completed and the technical tools and technologies I'd used. The second round was with HR. I felt it was more of a discussion and a chance to clear up any doubts rather than a formal interview. We also talked about the security clearance I would need to obtain.
- Could you tell me more about the projects listed on your resume?
- What are some of the technical tools and technologies you have experience with?
- Can you walk me through your past experiences as detailed in your resume?
Auditor
The interview process involved a lot of general customer service questions. They asked about how to organize tasks assigned by clients, how to plan and conduct an audit, verifying accounting records, and verifying generally accepted audit principles. We also discussed the difference between cash and accrual accounting, identifying audit case issues, and solving an audit case.
- What is your approach to handling an upset customer?
Appeals Specialist
You'll start by applying through GC Jobs with your resume and some screening questions. Then, you might have some exams, which could include a Situational Judgment Test (SJT), a written communication test, and a job-specific knowledge test covering things like tax laws, policies, and reasoning. After that, there's a panel interview with 2-3 people where they'll ask you behavioral questions using the STAR method, focusing on topics like communication, client service, conflict resolution, and judgment. References will be checked with your previous supervisors or managers. A security clearance, including a background and criminal check (Reliability or Secret level), is also required. Finally, successful candidates will get a job offer or be placed in a pool for future roles.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Could you discuss your prior work experience?
- What are your writing and communication abilities?
