First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Canaccord Genuity Group.
Investment Banking Analyst
Had 2 phone screens first, one with an associate and another with the MD who leads the group. After the phone screens, we had an in-person meeting with the whole group. The group had just formed, so the process wasn't as standard as typical IB interviews. There were some regular technical questions, but mostly we talked about fit and personal motivations.
- Why are you interested in investment banking and what's your reason for pursuing this path?
Analyst
I finished the interview and it was pretty easy. The entire thing took like 3-4 weeks from applying to getting an offer. First, HR called. Then, I had an in-person meeting with the manager, which included both behavioral and technical questions, plus an assessment. After that, I had a panel interview with the team.
- Tell me about a challenging situation you encountered at work and describe how you managed it.
Manager
I went through an interview, and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The interviewer seemed completely uninterested in getting to know me. They were really condescending, even though it was just an initial phone call, and even went so far as to 'correct' me about my own experience and resume, which has never happened before in my career. It was a super negative experience that has left me with a bad impression of the company's hiring practices. I've noticed the same three job openings, with identical pay and descriptions, have been on LinkedIn for over a year. I'm not sure if they're genuinely struggling to fill these roles or if they're just posting them for government benefits/incentives. The latter seems possible given how disengaged the interviewer was during our conversation.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
Portfolio Administrator
The interview process went smoothly, with general questions and responses. But when the offer was given, they changed the title from "Senior" to "Junior" without explaining why. The offer also had a 24-hour deadline to accept. When I followed up with HR, they were very slow to respond. When I tried to negotiate the offer terms, they just ignored my messages and let the 24-hour deadline pass. It was a really bad experience.
- Can you explain why you are a suitable candidate for this role?
