First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cambridge Consultants.
Software Engineer
Had a 45 min behaviour interview where they asked questions about my CV. Then there were multiple interviews at the assessment centre. The AC included a programming interview which covered OOP, data structures and algorithms, definitions of different techniques in my strongest programming language, what some lines of code do, and writing a function to do XYZ. The programming interview had a lot of variety but not much depth. After that was a free lunch, then a design interview and a chat with possible managers. The HR people didn't give any details about what the AC interviews would be like.
- Can you explain what generators are?
- What are decorators in programming?
- Could you define concurrency?
Technical Consultant
We had a group call that lasted about 4 hours, with some individual and group exercises. The individual tasks were tough but clear, but the group tasks were confusing. We got different documents and had to put them together to find info. It would've been easier in person, but on a group call, only one person can talk at a time and sharing details was hard, and they wanted us to reach a few different conclusions.
- Given unique documents detailing hospital operations, how would you propose improvements to their internal processes?
RF Engineer
It was a very technical interview, almost like an exam. They asked a couple of questions about my experience but mostly focused on RF systems and theoretical concepts. The job description didn't quite match what they were looking for in the interview. They didn't ask many questions about my actual experiences. I was told I lacked experience for the Graduate Role, even though I had worked on RF systems projects.
- Can you define Radiation Pattern?
- Can you define Efficiency?
- Can you define Directivity?
Electronic Engineer
It was a normal interview followed by a bunch of technical interviews, pretty much a full day. We started with a personality interview, then had four technical interviews. During lunch, we were with a grad student and a former intern, and they showed us around the place. My electronics knowledge wasn't quite there, so I found it tough. The interviews felt a lot like those at Oxbridge.
- Regarding the PCB shown, can you identify its components?
- How would you approach designing an RFID door entry scanner?
- What methods could be used to detect oil beneath a field without invasive drilling?
