A staff member contacted me and we set up a time to talk. Then, I had a panel interview with two staff members and a faculty member. They each asked me questions one after the other. I heard back pretty quickly after the interview and was told I wouldn't be moving forward.

Behavioral Technical Other

I interviewed for the student French translator position at BYU Speeches. The process included a meeting with the Translation Project Manager. We covered standard interview questions, and I also did a short translation assessment. I could use online tools like dictionaries and automatic translators for the assessment. The content to translate was quotes from the speeches I would be translating for the role. I had to explain how I would translate it and then give my best translation in a reasonable amount of time (a few minutes per quote).

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Given the technical and creative demands of the role, why do you believe you'd be a good translator?
  • Could you tell me about your experience with the French language?
  • How would you approach translating these quotes?

Behavioral Other

The interview process was really smooth and didn't take up too much of my time. The questions were pretty easy, and it felt more like a friendly chat than a high-pressure situation. I did get an offer, but I had to turn it down because I accepted another job offer from BYU.

Technical Coding Behavioral Coding

The first interview was over video call, lasting about 45 minutes. They asked some technical questions and gave some coding challenges. The second interview was in person at BYU. Before that, they gave a take-home challenge to be completed within a week. During the interview, they asked many standard questions, especially behavioral "tell me about a time when..." questions. They then reviewed the take-home challenge, provided another coding challenge, and asked a couple of whiteboarding questions. This part lasted about 2 and a half hours.
