Sales
It was a basic interview with simple questions. The interviewer was nice and was open to hiring people with no experience, like young individuals just starting out. There was some paperwork to fill out and my questions were answered. The environment felt open and welcoming, and the staff were great.
- Can you tell me about your previous job history?
- What skills or value can you bring to this role?
Merchandising
The night before the interview, we went to a mixer at a restaurant. Then, I had a one-on-one interview with an HR person, followed by an interview with a buyer. After that, I was offered a tour of the corporate offices. The whole experience was very relaxed and comfortable. Everyone was really nice and welcoming. The corporate tour was a lot of fun, and it was great to see where we might be living and working. They also gave us a two-hour bus tour of Milwaukee. I think attending the mixer was the most helpful part. Only those who were offered the corporate tour also attended the mixer the night before, so if they offer it, definitely go.
- Can you tell me about a class you took that could be helpful for this internship?
- What skills do you possess that you would bring to Bon Ton?
Executive Trainee
After getting selected for an on campus interview, I had a preliminary round where I met with a buyer and a planner for 30 minutes each. They asked a lot of behavioral questions that weren't too hard but really helped them get to know me and what pace of office I'd fit best in. A couple days later, I got a call saying I was selected for a final phone interview. This phone interview was a bit more challenging than typical interview questions and lasted about 45 minutes. Everyone I met was really nice and friendly, and despite normal nerves, I never felt intimidated. The whole process from the first interview to the offer took only a week and a half.
- What is your biggest regret from college?
- Is external validation a requirement for you to perform well?
Technical Designer
I had a phone call with HR, but it was really unprofessional. They cancelled the first interview 5 minutes before it was supposed to start via email. I had to reschedule for another day, only to be told they wanted someone with more experience. They didn't even apologize for cancelling or wasting my time with another interview when I wasn't a fit. It was the worst HR experience I've had; I had to leave work early twice and lost pay. It felt like they already had someone picked and were just interviewing others to follow policy. I ended up asking them as many questions as they asked me. The interview was 20 minutes long.

- Can you walk me through a typical day in your current role?
