Product Designer
So there were three interviews spread out over different days, each about an hour long. One of them involved a case study presentation. The chats were good, professional and made me feel comfortable talking about my experience, design thinking, and strategy. It did take a lot of time though – three hours of interviews plus prepping for the case study. They gave general feedback about seniority alignment after the last round, which wasn't very specific. More detailed feedback would have been great, especially after all that prep. Better communication at the end would really improve things for candidates.
- Can you present your case study and elaborate on how you made your decisions?
Software Engineer
The interview was a smooth experience with nice and friendly people who showed empathy and involvement. It took about 2 weeks from initial recruiter contact to receiving an offer. The process involved 3 steps. First, a coding challenge where, unlike other companies, you're allowed to use Google if you can explain your searches and needs. Second, a system design round where you'll design a system, illustrate it on a Miro board, and justify your choices. Finally, a behavioral discussion with the team leaders. My time for questions was limited, so I sent them to HR, and the team provided responses within a day.
- Code a simple service function and then explain how you would support it in the production environment.
Senior Mobile Engineer
So, Blacklane's interview was one of the smoothest I've had. It started with HR, and Subhan Feroze was super professional and clear about everything. There were four parts: an HR chat, a coding challenge in my specialty, a discussion about high-level app architecture, and then a chat about cultural fit with the engineering managers. It all felt well-paced and efficient. I really liked how the technical questions were super relevant to the job, not just random Leetcode stuff or predicting code outputs. The coding challenge was practical, like adding features and refactoring code. They really put effort into designing these, showing they care about quality. The technical interviewers were supportive and friendly, making it feel like a good team vibe. The final chat with the engineering managers was great too; they were approachable, supportive, and genuinely interested in my skills. It made me feel confident and valued. Overall, a really refreshing and enjoyable interview experience that gave me a great impression of Blacklane and their culture.
- Can you outline a system design for a 2-view application, considering its future expansion?
- From a team lead's standpoint, how would you assess a given architecture and plan for future project continuation with an expanding team?
Communications Manager
I went through a series of interviews with people from different departments and locations. Before each interview, I got practical info about what would be covered and who would be interviewing. The whole process was laid out clearly from the start, and I got quick feedback after each interview. The HR team was super helpful and responsive. The interviews felt pretty informal and conversational, focusing on the specific role and the company's overall goals. I had chances to talk about my experience, interests, and career goals, and also learned a lot about Blacklane's culture, mission, and values. The interviewers were great – prepared, engaged, and asked a lot of questions to understand my experience, why I wanted to join Blacklane, and my strengths.
- Could you share some examples of your experience and the results you've achieved in previous roles that are particularly relevant to Blacklane and the brand's mission and values?
- What are your thoughts on what the priorities for this role might be during your first few months, and also looking further ahead?
- How would you plan to achieve what you consider to be the immediate objectives for this position?
