So I initially had a call with the recruiter, then an interview with two engineers. I can't recall the exact questions, but I remember trying to solve something on a coding platform like Codility. One of the engineers asked a really specific question about microfrontends, which felt a bit too niche for the company's actual needs, but the other engineer helped calm things down. After that, I got a message saying I did well and an invite for the next interview, which I scheduled for two weeks out. But then, about a week before that scheduled interview, I got another message saying the next interview was a mistake. I don't really think it was a mistake; it felt like they had already decided on someone they interviewed earlier.

The interview process was smooth and professional, different from other interviews. It made me feel like a human, not just an application being processed.

Blacklane seems pretty on top of hiring, not just waiting around. The process can change depending on how you get in. Usually, it's a phone screen, then some coding homework, and finally an onsite with a few people. My manager found me at a Meetup and recruited me, and I had a lot of code on GitHub they could check out, so I skipped the coding challenge. I had a proper chat with him, the frontend team, and the engineering director, but it felt more like hanging out than a tough interview. I liked it. They're looking for team players who aren't difficult, and they're fine with hiring people who can learn and grow, even if they're not superstar developers.
