The interview process at BILL was honestly fantastic. It was five rounds total, but they moved quickly, so the whole thing took about four weeks from the first email to the offer. My recruiter was incredible and kept me updated every step of the way. I always knew exactly who I was talking to and what to expect, which took away all the stress and let me focus on the conversation. Everyone I met, from the hiring manager to the peer panel and the VP, came prepared and was super friendly. It was clear the team was all on the same page about the role, which made it a total no-brainer to say yes when the offer came in.

I had a phone call with HR and then a zoom interview with an attorney. After that, I did a writing assignment. I thought if the writing was good, I'd have another interview. HR said on our call that I had enough experience. My zoom call seemed good and HR asked me to do a writing prompt. They said my work was good after I turned it in but hired someone with more experience. It was strange to do an assignment and then be rejected for something they seemed to have already vetted. Oh well! Can't win them all. They seemed efficient and nice to work with, though. The HR call was about 30 minutes and the interview was 45 minutes. The writing assignment took about an hour.

About 5 weeks after applying, I got an email from Christy, the recruiter, to set up the first interview. It was a fast and smooth interview. Christy sent a detailed email about the interview process after I moved on to the next stage. The interviews were scheduled pretty close together. I had 4 interviews in total before being told they were moving forward with other candidates. I was bummed, but thankful for the chance. The whole thing took about 4 weeks. Everyone was really professional. Christy and Dina really impressed me. They managed things well and answered all my questions.

Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was pretty straightforward, and the recruiter was helpful in explaining it. It started with a chat with the recruiter, then an interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager really dug into one of my recent projects, asking a ton of follow-up questions about challenges, risks, data, success, and so on. The hiring manager was prepared and asked good questions. After that, I didn't hear anything for about 10 days. Then, I was asked to give a presentation on a case question, with only 4 days to get ready. During the presentation, there were five people, but one left after about 5 minutes. I was expecting a lot of questions, but they only asked me one. That made me think they'd already decided on someone else, so my 4 days of work on the case felt like a waste. The recruiter later confirmed they had made an offer to someone else, and that's why I didn't get the job.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Could you walk me through a recent project you worked on, and then tell me more about it?
  • Tell me about a recent project of yours, and a lot of follow up questions on that (entirely behavioural round).
