The interviews were pretty standard, though they kept reminding me I was just one of many candidates, which was a bit strange. I had four interviews total. The last one, the interviewer was 20 minutes late and only asked about three questions before having to rush off. Everything seemed to go well, but then I was ghosted with no feedback or results.

The initial phone chat felt awkward. The hiring manager was distracted by employees asking him questions and even put me on hold twice, which made me feel blown off and not confident about moving forward. Surprisingly, I advanced. On the day of the on-site, the hiring manager introduced me to his team right after a conference call and asked them for advice, to which they responded with "Run!" and "I hope you’re wearing good walking shoes." The second interviewer was the one who said "run." After a tour highlighting the office's amenities like organic snacks, open-air environment, free coffee, and ping-pong, the hiring manager explained his preference for walking interviews, believing they foster a more relaxed and open dialogue. I felt this format worked well for me, as I established a good connection, answered all questions, and addressed one objection. The second interview began well but devolved into an intense interrogation about my motivations. It felt like a good cop/bad cop dynamic, with the interviewer fixated on why I left a prior employer. A key takeaway from the second interviewer's background is his past in the predatory mortgage industry, where his office was shut down by the FBI. Additionally, when I inquired about his work-life balance, he described it as complete separation from work outside the office and no email response after hours, which seems unrealistic. If you're drawn to a vague notion of "work-life balance" and a judgment from someone with a questionable past, perhaps Bill.com is a good fit for you.

Behavioral Technical

It was pretty straightforward. Most of the people I talked to wanted to get to know me as a person, so I just went in relaxed and ready to chat about myself. It's important to be friendly and conversational. They also asked about my sales background, so I made sure to have examples of both my best and worst experiences ready. The whole thing took about a month from the first chat to getting the offer.
