First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BigHat Biosciences.
Business Development Intern
First, I had a friendly chat with the Director of Talent & Culture who clearly laid out expectations. Then, the Manager of Business Development wanted to get to know me better, asking follow-up questions out of genuine curiosity and providing direct, thoughtful answers about working at BigHat. Finally, I was given a case study to work on and present, followed by a discussion with the Chief Business Officer. Throughout the process, the team showed respect, friendliness, and humility, making the interactions enjoyable. It was evident they carefully consider both capability and cultural fit when hiring, which was a pleasant surprise and made the whole interview experience very structured yet engaging.

- Can you address questions that challenge your presented business case?
Scientist
I had a quick screening interview with the HR rep, who was friendly, and then a 1:1 with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was also very friendly and said I could expect an update by the next week. Sadly, I never heard back, and when I followed up with HR, I was told she would be in touch if there were next steps. I never heard from them again. For an exciting company and an initial warm and friendly start, I was disappointed they ghosted me and didn't even let me know they weren't moving forward. I hope they consider being more respectful of candidates.

Lab Operations Associate
The interview process was super unique and exceeded all my expectations for how a hiring team should interact with candidates. It started with a 15-minute introduction by Danielle Landrein (Director, Talent and Culture), who created a really warm welcome that set the tone for how the rest of the staff feels about working at BigHat. This initial screening focused on my long-term goals with the company. Then, I had a 30-minute interview with Tasha Matthews (Lab Manager), the hiring manager. We spent a good amount of time discussing the role's expectations and who I'd be reporting to. I was impressed by how open the BigHat team was about the company culture, not just focusing on my experience. Tasha and I even shared some laughs, which is rare these days! My first technical interview was 30 minutes with Charbel Eid (VP, Platform), and it was another great experience. Technical interviews can be stressful, but Charbel was so kind and easygoing, which really helped me see how much the BigHat team loves their jobs. The final stage was a Full Onsite Panel where I met 6 team members for 30 minutes each. Although it sounds intimidating, the team was amazing! Meeting so many bright, kind, and relaxed people was incredible. The interviews felt more like conversations about our career paths. Everyone spoke so highly of each other. This company really screens for harmonious personalities, creating an awesome atmosphere. I also got to tour the lab and facilities, which are exceptional. I finished up with Tasha and Danielle, leaving totally amazed by how happy, well-compensated, supported, and motivated everyone seemed to be, especially in this volatile job market.
- Regarding your future with BigHat Biosciences, what are your long-term aspirations?
- Imagine a lab member asks for your assistance with an instrument error you're not familiar with. How would you handle that situation?
- In the event you were unable to resolve an instrument issue promptly, how would you update the team on its status?
Research Associate
I was referred to BigHat and Danielle reached out soon after to set up an initial screening call. After that, I spoke with the hiring manager the same week, and then had a technical screen with someone on the team the following week. The next step was an on-site panel interview, which lasted from about 9am to 3pm. I spoke individually with 7-8 people and also had lunch with the interview panel. The whole process was pretty quick, under 3 weeks from application to offer, and I got a verbal offer about a month after applying. I really appreciated how communicative and transparent the recruiting team was. It was a really efficient and fast process overall, and took about 7 weeks from when I applied until I started!
- Can you describe your experience that's relevant to this role?
- How do you think you would fit in with our company culture?
