First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Big 5 Sporting Goods.
Manager Trainee
I had a one on one chat with the district manager. They asked me stuff about my resume, why I wanted to join Big 5, and if I was down to work at different store locations to get the full experience.
- What makes you want to work at Big 5?
- Can you tell me about your resume?
- Would you be open to working at different store locations for experience?
Assistant Manager
It's a short, basic interview. They'll ask general retail questions and about your past leadership experience. Just be confident, and it'll probably go well. It varies by store, and since turnover is high, there's usually an opening.
- How would you handle a customer who is complaining?
- Can you share some examples of your previous leadership experience?
Retail Sales Associate
The interview process was very quick and brief, mostly covering the basics of the role they need to fill. The hiring manager is professional and friendly, typically looking for people who are easy to get along with and willing to learn or take the lead when needed.
- What makes you interested in this role?
- Tell me about your strengths.
- What about your weaknesses?
Cashier
Applied online, then got a call to set up an interview. It was in person, and I dressed professionally. They asked me stuff about my sales experience, cashier experience, and any experience with sports. The questions felt like they were just reading from a script, pretty standard for a retail job interview.
- Tell me about your experience with sporting goods.
- What previous experience do you have with sales?
- What previous experience do you have with cashier work?
