First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Balfour Beatty.
Environmental Consultant
Did some online psychometric tests, then had a face-to-face interview. It was a bit intimidating, just me and three men in the room. The interview questions felt really generic, not specific to the role at all. They asked things they knew I couldn't answer, like about my construction experience, even though my CV doesn't show any. No info was ever given about the salary range, and they were super vague about how the role would work and what projects I'd be on. Honestly, I'm not sure they even knew much about the job themselves.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What construction projects have you been involved in?
- What are your thoughts on EDI?
MECM Administrator
It was a technical discussion about MECM in a business setting. We talked about deploying apps, handling software updates, and using CMG for remote help. Troubleshooting client issues, checking client health, and making sure connections work were also covered. We touched on distributing content, boundary groups, and DPs too. Basically, it was a real-world chat about using MECM.
- Can you detail how MECM functions within an enterprise setting?
- What are your strategies for deploying applications via MECM?
- Can you elaborate on managing software updates using MECM?
Internal Communications Manager
I got past the recruiter screen and then met with the SVP of comms and marketing. After that, I had two more interviews with the VP of marketing and the SVP of comms and marketing. Everything seemed good, and I was told HR would be next. I tried reaching the recruiter a few times but got ghosted. On the third try, he finally replied and said he'd follow up with the SVP, but he never did. I tried reaching out again and then just gave up. It was super unprofessional how they handled it. They should at least let a candidate know if they aren't moving forward.
- Can you describe a communication strategy or plan you managed from beginning to end?
Property Manager
I went through 6 interviews with different leaders and also did a 5-hour property tour in the middle of the day, which required me to take a day off. While all the interviews went well and feedback was positive, I never heard back from the company after the 6th interview. It's disappointing to invest so much time and use PTO for an interview process without any follow-up from HR or the hiring manager. I understand there are many candidates, but a simple follow-up would have been nice.
- Could you describe your approach to team management?
- What are your strategies for staying organized?
- Describe a time you had to report to both corporate and stakeholders.
