Support Analyst
The org is going through some changes, so the process felt a bit up in the air regarding staffing and structure. I was initially asked to move to the next round, but then the recruiter told me the role was put on hold and asked if I was still interested in interviewing and remaining on file. About 30 minutes later, another update came suggesting it would be best to wait until things are clearer. The convo was mostly about the role and the company merger, and how they're still figuring things out.
- Can you share what you know about our company, including our mission, products, recent developments, and overall direction?
- Given the current ambiguity within the company, how do you feel about joining in such an environment? Discuss your comfort with navigating change, working in evolving environments, and staying adaptable while prioritizing.
- Could you describe the range of support you have provided, such as technical troubleshooting, customer or end-user support, training, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration?
Product Designer
I was contacted by a recruiter after applying for the job on LinkedIn. First, there was a screening call, then I interviewed with the hiring manager for 30 minutes. Next, I was given a design exercise to complete and present to two other Product Designers, which also took 30 minutes. The exercise involved choosing one of three design briefs (e.g., design a solution for users to do X) and creating a few high-fidelity screens and a presentation about my design process. I had 4 hours to complete this exercise. After that, I had a 30-minute meeting with two team members I'd be working with. About a week after my last interview, the recruiter let me know they chose another candidate, giving me some feedback on their decision. Even though I didn't get an offer, it was a pretty good hiring process. The recruiter was communicative, the process took about 3 weeks total, and everyone was friendly and seemed to like their jobs.
- What are your preferred types of problems to tackle?
Account Executive
The interviewer called early and seemed uninterested in the company, speaking monotonously and cutting me off. Awkward pauses followed my answers. They didn't ask about my skills or qualifications, instead explaining the role is door-to-door with no leads provided and no expense coverage for fuel or phone. They directed me to their website for information, which uses a different name. I was told there's no team environment and salespeople are independent. The Sales Manager isn't based in my state. They shared average sale amounts but couldn't provide commission details, stating they "do not have that information." They tried to schedule another call about commission, which I declined. The 30-minute interview finished in under 10 minutes, feeling like an attempt to discourage me from the role, suggesting they're just seeking anyone. Many red flags were apparent.
- Would you be okay with a role that's entirely commission-based?
Product Manager
I interviewed at Xplor Technologies and went through four rounds. The interview stages were an initial phone screening, a technical assessment, a panel interview, and a final round with senior management. The interviewers were knowledgeable and engaging. I felt good about the interactions and appreciated the chance to talk about my skills and experiences. After all four rounds, I didn't get any feedback or follow-up. I tried reaching out for an update, but got no response. The lack of communication was frustrating and unprofessional, especially after I put in a lot of time and effort. This experience made me feel negatively about how Xplor Technologies handles candidates. I hope they can improve their follow-up process.
