So the interview process started with a phone screen, and then there was a two hour interview with 3 engineers. You could also go in person as an alternative. A nice thing was that an HR person met with us first and explained the benefits. But honestly, hearing the benefits offered at the beginning, which were pretty bad compared to most engineering companies, I kind of mentally checked out. Two of the engineers interviewing me also seemed like they didn't want to be there. Overall, it was a pretty bad interview experience and not really worth it for what they were offering.

The interview process kicked off with the typical recruiter call, followed by a phone interview. During this call, we talked about my resume, my career goals (including salary expectations), and they asked some questions to confirm details from my resume. After that, I was flown to Detroit. I picked up a rental car and headed to the hotel. The next day, I had the in-person interview, which involved meeting with about four different people. For context, I have experience with much larger engine manufacturers and airframers. The facility was really nice and new, and everyone there seemed friendly. I was impressed by the plant tour, which featured fairly new equipment. Everyone I met was really friendly and positive, with a can-do attitude that's hard to find elsewhere. Their current projects are quite interesting and exciting. A big plus for me is that it's a privately owned company, run by an engineer, not just 'bean counters.' The benefits they're offering are the best I've ever seen.

The interview was a 3-hour session broken into half-hour meetings with different interviewers. Everyone was really nice and friendly. They seemed really interested in how I found out about the company and my motivations for wanting to join. I got the impression they prioritize candidates who align well with their company culture. While I've had interviews that were technically more challenging, this one was the most comfortable and engaging for me. I believe this strong cultural alignment was key to me receiving the offer. It seems like if you have a good GPA, they assume you have the technical skills and focus more on cultural fit.

After submitting my application online, I was contacted within a few days. The first step was a one-on-one phone chat with HR. Then, they sent over some details about benefits and we set up an in-person meeting about a week later. This meeting involved talking individually with three people: HR for about 30 minutes, the hiring manager for another 30 minutes, and then the hiring manager's boss for about 10 minutes. The conversations were pretty casual, and I felt I answered their questions well enough, although I could have used more time to ask my own questions. They didn't give me any skill tests or personality quizzes. At the very end, HR showed me around their really nice office.
