First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Western & Southern Life.
Sales Associate
The interview was structured, but ran nearly two hours. Many of the questions were repetitive, which made the conversation feel more like an endurance test than a two-way dialogue. When I asked my own questions, the answers were extremely long-winded, which compounded the length. The job description wasn't presented until the very end of the interview, which is the reverse of how most interviews are structured. The team uses a public daily ranking board tied to sales volume. It was presented as motivational, but the accompanying comment that "nobody wants to be at the bottom" suggests it can function more as public pressure than encouragement. Candidates who are sensitive to that kind of environment should factor it in. Up front about it being a high-demand and fast-paced job with no downtime between tough calls. At the end of the process, I was redirected toward a different role than the one I interviewed for, which was below my background and qualifications. There was no clear explanation or feedback. Pros: Strong parent company, paid licensing, salary-based compensation, day-to-day expectations were clearly communicated Cons: Interview structure felt inverted and one-sided, role scope not fully accurate in posting, public ranking board culture may not suit everyone Advice to candidates: Ask clarifying questions about the full scope of the role before the interview
- Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Operations Support Supervisor
I had a 15 minute phone call with an Operations Manager, then three skill assessments. Finally, I had an in person interview with two Operations Managers, where one asked questions and the other took notes. They asked about 15 STAR questions.
- How would you go about finding problems in a process and then making changes to fix them?
Software Development Engineer in Test
First, there was an HR round, which was like a screening to see if you're a good fit for the company culture and if your background and experience match. They mostly asked general stuff about your resume, your career plans, and why you're interested in Deloitte. It's usually a casual chat where you'll talk about what you expect, your salary needs, and when you can start. Then, a technical interview happened to really dig into your technical skills and how you solve problems. This focused on test automation, frameworks, and tools, like Selenium.
- Can you tell me more about your background and experience?
- What are your career goals?
- Why are you interested in working at Deloitte?
Financial Advisor
So you start with a quick screening call to see if you're even qualified. Then, the first round is all about your finance smarts and how you deal with clients. They might give you some tests or a case study too. The second round digs into trickier situations and checks if you'll fit in with the team. And they'll also do some behavioral interviews to check out your softer skills.
- Can you name 100 people in your community?
