First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Warren James.
Sales Advisor
It was a really conversational interview. They only asked a couple of things, and I had to do some packaging and math problems. They asked stuff like why they should pick me and mostly just told me about the job and what they expect.
- Could you tell us why we should select you for this position?
- What feedback would your colleagues or peers give you?
- Could you please demonstrate your packaging skills?
Sales Associate
I got a Whatsapp message from head office, asking me to call the branch. I did, and they offered me an interview. I went, dressed right and arrived on time. The interview was 40 minutes long. At the end, the hiring manager said it would take a week to get back to me, and I texted head office to thank them. I waited a week for the feedback. Then another week. And another week. And another week. Never heard back. Not from the store and not even from head office. It was very unprofessional and a total disrespect to my time and effort.
- Can you describe this item or sell it to me?
- How would you package this item?
- What is your passion for jewellery?
Sales Assistant
The manager called me the day after getting my CV for an interview, I was hesitant about the next day notice but we sorted it out. I was told to look up the company online and bring a printed CV. When I got there, an assistant sat in on the interview as they were being trained. The manager seemed to think I was fresh out of school and hadn't read my CV, saying I had no 'REAL retail' experience when I did. Instead of asking about my work history, she asked about school and home life. She insisted we shouldn't bring drama to work. Then there was a written test where I had to describe and package earrings. I was told if I didn't hear back by Friday morning, I didn't get the job. It was a very uncomfortable experience.
- Do you do housework, like cleaning? Do you cook?
- Tell me about your greatest achievement in school.
- Can you describe these earrings without trying to sell them? Just state what you observe.
E-commerce Coordinator
Interview itself was pretty straightforward but I swiftly retracted my application afterwards as the culture seemed quite toxic. The interviewers seemed more interested in telling me about their strict dress code policy than anything else, which for a non customer facing office role seemed excessive. The fact the only benefits they list on their job ads is 28 days holiday (the legal minimum) and monthly pay into your bank account (again… the bare minimum for a job?!) says it all.
