Sales Assistant
The manager called me the day after getting my CV for an interview, I was hesitant about the next day notice but we sorted it out. I was told to look up the company online and bring a printed CV. When I got there, an assistant sat in on the interview as they were being trained. The manager seemed to think I was fresh out of school and hadn't read my CV, saying I had no 'REAL retail' experience when I did. Instead of asking about my work history, she asked about school and home life. She insisted we shouldn't bring drama to work. Then there was a written test where I had to describe and package earrings. I was told if I didn't hear back by Friday morning, I didn't get the job. It was a very uncomfortable experience.
- Do you do housework, like cleaning? Do you cook?
- Tell me about your greatest achievement in school.
- Can you describe these earrings without trying to sell them? Just state what you observe.
Sales Assistant
The interview was online and the interviewer was very nice. They asked me to bring a piece of jewellery and basically "sell" it to them, making sure to use my hands smoothly. Warren James likes to treat customer assistance as a show, so you're meant to be acting and describing the jewellery passionately. I wouldn't really advise working here though. I was sent to another city to cover shifts despite having little experience and only being a temp. I was also accused of lying in my interview because I wasn’t working every hour of everyday that I didn’t have college, even though I was on a 16-hour contract. Apparently, they have a rule where you must work overtime. Across 5 days I worked over 50 hours, and I was only 17. So yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it.
- Can you show us your favorite piece of jewelry and tell us about it?
- What makes you want to work at Warren James?
Sales Assistant
The interview process involved a few steps. First, I was asked about my suitability for the role and my knowledge of the company. Then, there was a practical task where I had to put a necklace in a jewelry box, followed by a maths test. Finally, I was given a form to fill out with personal details like my holiday availability.
- Why do you think you are a good fit for this position?
- What is your understanding of our company?
- Show me how you would place a necklace into a jewelry box.
