First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at US Chamber of Commerce.
Communications Intern
Had one interview, it was a standard HR chat. They asked me to introduce myself, talk about my past experiences, and explain why I'm interested in working there. It was only 30 minutes and pretty easy. I also had to send over some examples of my past work.
- Can you tell me about your previous experiences?
Senior Director, Newsletter Editor-Writer
I applied online and had an initial screening interview with an HR person. They were efficient and sent me benefits information right after, then moved me to the next step. Then, the HR person sent me an email with tips for interviewing with the hiring manager, like dressing professionally and sending a thank you note. I found this odd for a director-level role, as I expected a professional to know these things. A few days later, I interviewed with the hiring manager. They said they'd get back to me later that day or the next, but I didn't hear anything for over two weeks. This lack of follow-through makes me question how they value potential employees and if they treat actual employees well.
- What are the standard and expected questions for someone at this seniority level?
- Can you provide some challenging questions relevant to this position?
Vice President
The questions weren't too difficult, and the quality and quantity of questions were average. I was asked about my salary expectations, if I had any issues with commuting to Washington, DC, and my availability to start.
- What's your motivation for applying to the Chamber?
- What are your salary expectations?
- Would commuting to Washington, DC be a problem for you?
Assistant Producer
This was the most unprofessional (and brief) process I have ever encountered. The HR lady emails me first thing in the morning at 9am asking if I can make room that same day for a phone screen. I email her back not even an hour later when I first saw her email and was able to make room for 1pm. She’s nearly a half hour late calling me and rushes me with her first question which was about salary. She then takes a look at my resume and says that she doesn’t know if I have enough experience for what is an entry level position. I have 4 years experience but she proceeds to rush me off the phone saying that she needs to talk to that particular department head about if that’s enough experience. I tell her I’m willing to be considered for anything else and after a shady pause, she’s says “okay” and abruptly ends the call. Completely unprofessional and I can’t believe I made time during my busy WEEKDAY for such indecency! And no I never even got a rejection email even after emailing her back about how unprofessional and rude she was. I will never want to work for an organization that can’t even respect people’s time.
- What are your salary expectations?
