I had to do a math and a stats task, which I couldn't prep for. The math part was explaining a concept to a student, which was fine. But then there was this task where I had to read a 2-page doc in just 4 minutes and give feedback. Honestly, it felt like a trick question because 4 mins is not enough time to give good feedback. They told me I didn't get the offer because I didn't talk about the tricky parts of working with academics, like power dynamics or telling off course leaders, even though that wasn't part of the task. They said that saying these things would have shown I get the 'interpersonal aspects' better. They also said my responses were 'too considered' and that I should be more instinctive and share my 'initial thinking' more openly, like thinking aloud to build trust, even if I'm not fully sure yet. I guess I'm just not the type to talk non-stop.

I really enjoyed the interview process. All the line managers were very pleasant and straightforward about the job duties. They were also very willing to answer any questions I had, which made me feel the process was fair and respectful. I'd happily suggest this opportunity to others. However, the HR part of the process was quite slow.

I was given a presentation task with a facilitated discussion led by a panel from the team. Afterwards, I was moved to a room to complete another task independently. This was followed by a panel interview with three managers from the department. The entire process lasted about 2 hours. The staff were very nice and accommodating, gentle and kind, but still thorough.

The interview experience at the University of Bath was really disappointing. They gave me an Excel task just 15 minutes before the interview, which was super complicated and didn't make sense, even though they said they don't really use Excel daily and have their own software. The interview itself was also not great. They asked me generic questions that didn't connect with my experience or what I wanted to talk about. It felt like they were just going through a script and not really trying to see how I could fit in. They also asked about my personality, which seemed weird for a job interview focused on skills. It felt more like a formality. I also never got any feedback after, which was unprofessional.
