First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Umicore.
Operator
We started with a 45-minute online chat. Then, I had to complete a take-home test that took about 2-3 hours. After that, I was invited to Umicore. There, I did two tests on a computer, lasting around 20-25 minutes. If those went well, I had a follow-up interview, which included a tour. Next was a medical examination, and then I started working.

Data & AI Consultant
There were 3 interviews in total: first an HR interview, then a Manager interview, and finally a VP interview. The HR interview was pretty standard, covering my past experiences, strengths, and accomplishments. The Manager interview was more technical, probing both my technical and functional skills. The VP interview was more about understanding the job role, the overall workstreams, my ambitions, and my personal fit.
- Can you tell me about your achievements?
- Could you describe the use cases and projects you have worked on?
- What makes you feel you are a suitable candidate for our team?
QEHS Manager
I had my first interview with HR, then I did a bunch of tests. After that, I met with the hiring manager. Then I had a third meeting with HR and a fourth meeting with HR, the hiring manager, and another manager from a different department. It was a weird process, and the other manager asked a lot of questions that weren't really relevant and didn't seem necessary.
- In five years, where do you envision yourself?
- What are your core strengths?
- What motivates your interest in this particular field?
Associate Scientist
So there's like 4 steps in total, first an hr interview, then a scientific interview, then an assessment day that's pretty much the whole day, and then if all goes well, a contract offer. I actually bailed after the hr interview though 'cause the recruiter was super rude, like totally emotionless, passive aggressive, and degrading. They made comments about whether I could even start because I'm finishing my PhD in March, even though they said the final decision/offer wouldn't be for like 8 weeks after the first interview in January. And they also said other people might be better fits since they have more specialized experience either in their PhD or previous jobs.
- What makes you want to work for this company?
- What are your motivations for applying to this role?
- What kind of feedback would others give you about yourself?
