First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Umicore.
Project Manager
There were 2 interviews in total, the first one was with a recruiter and the second one was with managers. Before all that, there were some online tests. The interviews were pretty chill, no hard questions and it was a good way to get to know myself better.
- What made you decide to apply to this company?
- In what ways can you be a valuable asset to us?
Project Manager
Had a chat with an inhouse recruiter about the job. They asked standard interview questions, mostly about your interest and if you'd be a good fit for the role. The recruiter wasn't really on the same page as the hiring manager about what they needed, so we didn't move forward.
- What makes you want to work for Umicore?
Project Manager
I applied and was quickly contacted by a freelance HR recruiter for a first interview. This first interview was online and was mainly my motivation for the company, them explaining the role a bit more and then me discussing why my competencies match the role. This interview was very pleasant. I was quickly invited for a second interview at the Brussels HQ office with the freelance recruiter and the hiring manager. The second interview was also overall pleasant. They were 15 minutes late tho, but it was a good interview. More information was given about the role, the hiring manager answered a lot of questions that I anticipated on asking, so this was very well anticipated of them. At the end of the second interview, the HR recruiter asked if I was free the next week or the week after for an assessment center, and while she guided me to the elevator she also said it went very well. This gave me the impression that it was a great interview and I would hear back soon. After this interview, I was ghosted by Umicore for over 3 weeks. In that time, I sent 2 follow-up emails, and called twice & left a voicemail, but I heard nothing from them and they didn't reply my follow-ups. Absolutely disrespectful. And after an interview I went all the way to Brussels for and took time off my job and put so much effort into, this is even more frustrating. After weeks of not hearing anything, I received an automatically generated email that the position was filled in and my application was being stopped. After all my efforts, they did not even have the decency to call me personally on why they didn't continue with me. I've tried asking for feedback, but have of couse not received a reply yet. Overall, worst candidate experience ever, do not recommend applying there. Get it together, Umicore.
- Can you tell us about your motivation for joining our company?
