First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UC Riverside.
Intern
It was a pretty straightforward interview process for the UCR ITS dept student intern role. It consisted of basic SQL questions in one round, lasting between 30 minutes to an hour, covering both behavioral and technical aspects. I received the offer about a month after the interview.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Of all your projects, which one are you most proud of?
- Basic SQL questions
Office Assistant
The hiring manager, who is the head of the department, was very understanding and helpful. They were supportive of not only my professional development but also respectful of my time as a student with a full-time schedule. The interview included typical behavioral questions and focused heavily on character assessment.
- Describe a challenge you faced and explain how you successfully navigated it.
Peer Mentor
The interview process involved a panel interview with staff and managers. There was also a presentation of my skills. The focus was on STAR behavioral questions and scenarios to see if I was a good fit for the role and the job description. There was a GPA requirement, and they considered my personal background to be relevant for the role.
- Can you share about your personal background and how it relates to suitability for this role?
Student Services Advisor
Interviews are usually one panel interview, with three people from the department (typically one faculty and two staff members) and one person from HR. Then, there's usually a second round with the department chair. The timeline for the hiring process really depends on the department's urgency to fill the role. They generally interview a minimum of three candidates, potentially more if the applicant pool is strong. Their interview questions need a makeover; they've made them overly complicated by asking compound questions, where a single question might actually bundle 2-4 smaller inquiries.
- What is your understanding of the program, department, or college?
