First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Trupanion.
Marketing Project Manager
I applied online on 12/19/24 and heard back from HR on 1/14/25. They set up a 30-minute audio-only Teams call for 1/16. I interviewed and then got an automatic rejection email on 1/21. The recruiter was nice and very direct during the call. She immediately asked about my interest in the company and the position, which was a bit unusual because normally the first few minutes of an HR phone screen are about discussing the company and the role. They seem to want to quickly filter out candidates based on their enthusiasm for the job.

Recruiter
The interview process included a Recruiter Screen, a Hiring Manager Interview, an interview with the Sr. Director of People & Talent, an interview with the VP of Contact Center, and an interview with the Manager of People & Business Partners. The staff was really great and enthusiastic about the company's mission. The role's responsibilities weren't exactly what I was looking for, and the team was upfront about it. They kept me updated quickly and were transparent throughout the process, even though I didn't get the job.

IT Manager Infrastructure
So at Trupanion, the interview was pretty intense, you know, like, they really wanted to check everything. It was a structured thing with different people from different parts of the company talking to me. They checked my tech skills, my experience, and if I'd fit in. I met with folks from dev, systems engineering, and IT ops, and they all had their own way of asking stuff to see how I'd work with them. It wasn't just about the tech, but also how I'd fit into the company vibe and handle the job stuff. They seemed really focused on security, managing things well, and thinking ahead. It felt like they were really serious about building a good team. You could tell they care about security, being innovative, and managing teams right. Overall, it was a good look into what they do and what they expect. It's a company that seems to want smart, adaptable people who are on the same page strategically.
- Can you describe your approach to managing and leading diverse teams?
- How do you handle conflict within your team, and can you provide an example of how you've resolved a significant conflict in the past?
- What strategies do you use to keep your team motivated, especially during high-pressure projects?
Customer Service Representative
I applied and after three weeks, a recruiter reached out to schedule a phone interview for a week later. This 30-minute call was mostly standard questions, and I got to ask about the role. The next day, I was invited to a 1-hour Zoom interview with some managers. This was a very different vibe, and I knew pretty quickly it wasn't going to work out. They'd sent a prep doc with discussion topics, but none of them came up during the interview, so preparing for that felt like a waste of time. I asked for clarification on a question and got a sarcastic response. After that, I had a Q&A with someone currently in the role, which was great. She was really helpful and a welcome change after the awkward manager interview.
- Describe how you would manage a dissatisfied client.
