First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Trupanion.
Applications Developer
The first part was a phone interview where they asked about my current job and some technical stuff. It went well. Then I had an in-person interview. The team lead talked about the project and the job. I introduced myself. They asked me to write code logic on a board, giving me hints to help me finish it. Then there were other questions. After that, the Director of Ecommerce spoke with me. They mentioned my experience in a particular area. They asked me about this experience and gave me hints again, but I wasn't as strong as I thought I was. They asked another question, which I think I answered right. Then they asked if I had questions, and I asked what motivates them in tech. They gave me a good suggestion. Finally, the TL came back and asked how it went, and I said not great, and that was the end of the interview.
- Can you show me the syntax for an Interface that follows the Open/Closed Principle?
Software Engineer
Went through a three stage interview process: first HR screening, then a technical skills screening, and finally an interview with two full-stack developers. All stages went well and the questions were pretty standard. The final interview felt more like a casual chat with fellow developers, very laid back and positive, and I left feeling good about my responses. However, the hiring process was slow; it took 10 days to get the first interview scheduled and then another three weeks for subsequent interviews. The most frustrating part was waiting 7 days after the final interview to be rejected, especially since I had turned down another offer in the meantime, believing this role would be a better fit.
- Can you share an instance of a disagreement with a coworker and how you resolved it?
- Describe a mistake you made, detailing how you corrected it and what you learned.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment at Trupanion?
Software Engineer
The interview process included an initial phone screen where they asked about C# language features. This was followed by a coding interview on a whiteboard, focusing on time complexity. Then, there was a discussion covering the software development lifecycle, API documentation, and SOLID principles. Finally, I had a discussion with the VP about company and team culture.
- Can you describe how you documented the REST API you worked on previously?
