Recruiter
it was the second interview that made me rethink is that would be the team I would like to be part of, because I didn't really feel welcomed. However, I enjoyed how things went on the first one, the interviewers seemed very warm and friendly
- How would you prepare for a tech conference?
Microservices Engineer
It was an internship. First, there was a Coderbyte test that wasn't too difficult. After that, I had a 30-minute Zoom interview with a senior engineer. You really need to know graphs and advanced algorithms well. Even though I aced the Coderbyte test, I didn't get an offer because I'm not strong in graphs. He didn't actually ask me a graph problem, but I was upfront about my weakness. The senior engineer was nice though, and I had a positive experience overall.
- Can you explain Heap sort?
- What do you know about Graphs?
- Tell me about low-level programming.
Software Engineer
I applied online and heard back from a recruiter in 4 days. She arranged a technical phone screen. The interviewer was pretty chill and focused on how I approached the problem. Then, the next week, I had another phone screen with a senior person. We chatted about my past work for about 20 minutes. After that, he asked a common question I hadn't seen before. I explained my ideas, and he pushed me to think about space efficiency. He also threw in good test cases to challenge my answers. In the last 10 minutes, he wanted me to just code it, not worry about being super efficient. I got about 90% done before he cut me off due to time, and that's when I figured it might be a rejection.
- Tree problems and recursion are crucial.
Senior QA Engineer
The interview process was fairly simple and professional. It consisted of one phone interview and two on site interviews. The first interview (on phone) was with a Senior QA Engineer. The interviewer was very pleasant and was more interested in the way I solved and approached the various scenarios that she presented rather then the solutions themselves. The second interview (on site) ran for about four hours and consisted 1:1 interview sessions with the Senior Recruiter, who asked me about my salary expectations and the usual HR stuff, and various QA Managers and Senior QA Engineers. The Managers and Engineers who interviewed me were pretty professional and represented different departments. The questioning, like the phone interview, focused on problem solving abilities and approach rather than the solution itself. That said, the interview scheduling was bit unorganized since two interviewers were substituted at the last minute and a Senior Director was out of office on that day. The third and last interview (on site, again) was with the same Senior Recruiter and with the Senior Director who wasn't able to make before. Questioning was, surprisingly, focused on my academic background and my decision making abilities. The Recruiter spoke to me about my salary expectations, again, and about my other offers. The whole set up was handled professionally. The Recruiter was willing to work around my schedule to set up the interviews. There were no interviews with either the PMs or Developers, which is always nice!
- How would you retrieve a list of students taught by teacher X, given student, course, teacher, and association tables?
- How can you determine if a route is the most optimal path between two locations?
- Could you describe the most challenging task or responsibility in your current role?
