First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Techstars.
Senior Software Engineer
It was an easy interview with technical questions, asking for step-by-step explanations. We discussed the project architect and technical project details. There was an HR discussion and salary discussion. Questions covered Oops concepts, Sql Server, Java, Core concepts, Angular, Mvc, Linq, Entity framework, and React.
- Can you tell me about yourself? Also, explain the project details.
Operations Associate
The hiring process involved a structured application followed by two interview rounds. The first round was a spontaneous motivational/behavioral chat, and if successful, candidates moved to a take-home event planning assignment. The whole process was very fast, wrapping up in just one week. The first interview was requested on the same day without prior notice. Communication wasn't the best and felt a bit cold, despite the hiring team emphasizing their intense work environment and helping core values.
- Which tools would you employ for organization?
Program Associate
After applying, I got an interview request about a week later. Weirdly, we skipped the usual recruiter call and went straight into a first-round virtual interview with someone from talent. They really hammered home how high-stress the role would be and that it would need some overtime; honestly, the pay range is pretty low considering the job description. I thought the interview went well, but then I was totally ghosted. I followed up, and still nothing. It sounds like this is a common thing based on other reviews.
- Could you describe a program you managed from its beginning to its end, including any difficulties you faced?
Executive Assistant
The interview process at Techstars was incredibly lengthy and showed a distinct lack of respect for my time. What should have been just two interviews ended up taking almost four weeks because they took two weeks to schedule each subsequent step. I was applying for other roles concurrently and received another offer. The Techstars team seemed great, and I was keen to work there, so I reached out to the internal recruiters handling my application. I informed them about the other job offer and inquired about my status with Techstars, as I would have declined the other offer if Techstars was still moving forward with my application. I even contacted the executive who interviewed me for an update, as I hadn't heard back from the recruiters and the other company was awaiting my decision. After a month of no response, I assumed I was rejected, which was quite disrespectful given that every candidate deserves to know their application status. However, I continued my job search despite their poor time management. Astonishingly, exactly one month after emailing both the recruiters and the executive, I received a very casual and dismissive email stating they were still interested and would be moving me to the final stage. Their reason for not replying to my urgent email was the American Thanksgiving holiday. I was taken aback by this flimsy excuse for their inadequate recruitment process. The fact that they thought not responding for a month was acceptable reinforced my belief that this would be a disorganized and unpleasant workplace. Fortunately, I had already accepted and started a new role elsewhere because their application process moved so slowly. I dread to think how many qualified candidates they've lost due to their shocking disregard for candidates' time. Other reviews of Techstars' interview processes confirm this is a persistent issue.
