After I applied, about a month later, they sent me an email to set up a phone interview and told me to complete an online assessment. It had questions like 'if you were asked to test a new model of fridge, what would you test?' and showed me a picture of a webpage that wouldn't connect, then asked me to describe how I'd troubleshoot it. The phone interview was pretty standard, asking me what I think the job would entail and how I'd handle situations where I don't know how to do the assigned work. Then, I had an in-person interview with two people, plus someone calling in from San Diego. They mostly asked about how I'd handle testing in various situations, and I felt like my answers weren't good enough. They kept pushing me to explain more and reworded the questions, but surprisingly, I got an offer.

Applied online and then got a surprise call a month later, no email. They wanted me to come for an in-person interview right away, which felt weird since we hadn't done any prior screening. But, I decided to go for it and drove 4.5 hours to San Luis Obsipo for a 2-hour interview. It was a panel of 4 people. They asked about my experience, then we did 2 coding problems on the whiteboard, and I had to draw a UML diagram for a network. I felt pretty good about it. A week later, I got an email from HR saying they chose another candidate. The whole process was a bit of a mess: they had me travel a long distance without any technical screening first, they didn't reply to my questions about travel reimbursement or interview duration, and the rejection came from a generic email instead of the person I was talking to.

I was contacted by HR after they saw my resume and they then set up an interview. The interviewer, who would have been a coworker, called me on the phone. During the call, they called the job a "junior" role. When I backed out after hearing that, the interviewer seemed happy. When I asked HR about it later, they didn't know why it was called junior. It seems like typical workplace politics, showing why interviews without witnesses are a bad idea.

I had a phone call scheduled a few days out. It was a one-on-one conversation with the interviewer for about 45 minutes. He said he liked talking with me and would be in touch. About a month later, I had another phone interview with the same guy and someone else. This call was about the same length. A couple of months after that, I got an email saying they hired someone with more experience.
