First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Surge Connections.
Marketing Assistant
I applied online and they got back to me for a quick phone screening. Then I was invited to their office for an interview. The company seemed a bit odd, being in business for 8 years but having hardly any online presence besides their own site. So I went in feeling skeptical. When I got there, the office was loud with employees shouting. It looked like mostly door-to-door or telemarketing sales. The whole vibe was intense and negative, and the interview was the same. The interviewer was young but really arrogant about his achievements. It was a really short 10-15 minute interview, which was annoying after traveling out there. The interviewer mentioned there would be more interviews, cutting the group from 12 down to three, then one final person.
- Can you tell me about why you chose your major in school?
- What kind of job did you envision that major leading you to?
Management Trainee
I applied through Indeed and was contacted by HR to schedule an interview. I went through two interviews. I was aware of the company's nature before interviewing. My motivation for continuing was curiosity and a desire to hone my interview skills for a role I genuinely desired. However, a sensible individual would decline an offer here, as better opportunities exist elsewhere. It's advisable not to waste your time. The setup feels very much like a pyramid scheme, involving door-to-door sales roles entirely based on commission. This appears to be a deceptive scheme targeting recent graduates with promises of rapid advancement to management.
- What kind of individuals would you want as part of your team?
Sales/Business Development
The company responded quickly, reaching out via email and phone the next day for a brief 10-minute screening. This was followed by an in-person interview. However, the scheduling was unprofessional and last-minute, with them requesting my presence the very next morning due to their limited availability. After this initial meeting, which went well, they tried to set up a second meeting for Saturday, which I couldn't do, so we had the second interview that same day. When I mentioned needing two weeks' notice to my current employer, they seemed surprised and kept pressing me about starting sooner. I felt that if they couldn't respect scheduling commitments during the interview process, it's unlikely they would as an employer.
- Can you explain the difference between inside and outside marketing?
Management Training
I had an in-person interview lasting about an hour with the manager and a top employee. It was a thorough and genuine conversation to see if my goals and theirs aligned. They seem to be looking for people they can partner with long-term. I was a bit worried about the other candidates and if they connected better with the team, but I guess that's normal. The office atmosphere was great, very professional, and I liked that they had ESPN on the lobby TV. I was happy to get an offer, and I'm hoping they'll consider interviewing my friend who just graduated.
- What are your thoughts on working within a team?
