Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Surge Connections.
Marketing
I got a call from a hiring manager in the morning to talk about the role and my background. They then invited me for an interview the next day with another manager. It was about an hour long, and they asked me questions about my qualifications. I think I did well answering them, but I haven't heard back about a second interview with Surge Connections. The company culture seemed fun and competitive, and I think I'd fit right in.
- Can you share some examples of your leadership experience from work, school, or sports?
Marketing
I applied online and got a call within two days about an interview. The first interview was with a manager who really emphasized the earning potential. I asked about things I'd read on Glassdoor and he denied them. He didn't mention it was a door-to-door sales job. I was invited for a second interview the very next day. This one was with an account manager and it went on for almost an hour, even though I told them I had another interview and needed to leave on time. She still talked and made me wait longer to speak with another manager. I eventually told him I was looking for a real job, not door-to-door sales, and left. It seems like a pyramid scheme.
- What question would you pose to a candidate applying for a role like yours?
Marketing Assistant
I applied online and they got back to me for a quick phone screening. Then I was invited to their office for an interview. The company seemed a bit odd, being in business for 8 years but having hardly any online presence besides their own site. So I went in feeling skeptical. When I got there, the office was loud with employees shouting. It looked like mostly door-to-door or telemarketing sales. The whole vibe was intense and negative, and the interview was the same. The interviewer was young but really arrogant about his achievements. It was a really short 10-15 minute interview, which was annoying after traveling out there. The interviewer mentioned there would be more interviews, cutting the group from 12 down to three, then one final person.
- Can you tell me about why you chose your major in school?
- What kind of job did you envision that major leading you to?
