First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Straive.
AI Engineer
So the interviews, they started with a call from the recruiter, then went into a bunch of technical coding rounds where they really focused on algorithms and data structures. After that, we had a system design discussion, some behavioral interviews, and it all wrapped up with a chat with the hiring manager, which was pretty in-depth.
- Can you explain your process for debugging a RAG system that's producing irrelevant results in a live environment?
- Describe your debugging methodology for a production RAG system, focusing on how you'd prioritize and communicate findings.
- When debugging a RAG system, why did you choose that specific step?
BI Manager
The interview process included two technical interviews focused on SQL and BI skills. The first round was quite engaging; the interviewer asked technical SQL questions and also showed interest in my past projects and how I've implemented BI solutions, with subsequent BI questions related to my experience. The second round felt different, with an interviewer who seemed rude and uninterested in my background. This interviewer primarily asked random BI technical questions without clear context, had poor communication, and rushed through questions without allowing enough time to process or respond.
- What are LOD expressions?
- Can you explain window functions?
- What are joins?
Data Scientist
After a couple of screening rounds with HR and the Hiring Manager, I moved on to a 'case study' round. I was given a problem statement with data, specifically a Route Optimization problem relevant to the GIS domain. The scenario involved a school bus route: the bus starts from a point, picks up students, drops them at school, and returns. The provided GPS data showed the actual route taken by the driver was not optimal and didn't match the planned route. My task was to figure out why the driver wasn't following the planned route and suggest an optimal route for them to follow.
- Can you tell me about your domain knowledge regarding GIS technologies and open-source tools?
Application Support Specialist
It was a technical round. They asked about AWS, SQL, Database Administration, server monitoring, and Data Migration. They wanted to know how to move data from old systems to new ones. Also, how to find blank values in a table and the third highest salary by department. The application wasn't working for anyone on AWS. It seemed like they wanted someone with development experience, which I don't have.
- Can you explain the data migration process from a legacy system to a modern one?
- How would you find the third highest salary within each department?
- What are the methods for identifying blank values in a table?
