First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Solomon Cordwell Buenz.
Designer
The hiring process moved along pretty quickly. It started with a recruiter call, then there was one round with a leader, and the final interview involved talking with several more senior members of the team. There wasn't any pressure, and I didn't have to do an assignment, so I got the offer pretty soon after.
- Could you tell me about the projects you've worked on?
HR Generalist
It took less than 2 weeks to finish the process. The hiring team was very efficient and respectful. There were only two rounds. The interview questions were very straight forward and you can tell that they are looking for a right fit - not there to make the candidates jump through hoops. This is the best interview experience I have ever had.
- Can you introduce yourself?
Architectural Designer
I got recommended for an interview by a professor at IIT. The interview felt hostile from the start. When I brought up my interest in sustainability, they laughed and said it gets value-engineered out. I also asked about a development project near the Chicago River, and the interviewer incorrectly stated they have no projects there and laughed, saying I must be thinking of another firm. I later checked their website and found the project they denied. I think the company should be ashamed of this interview process and the employees involved.
- Can you tell me your GPA?
Technical Designer
I went through three interviews in total, two over the phone and one in person. The whole experience felt really disorganized. I was getting emails from different assistants to schedule calls, they forgot my availability for the in-person meeting even after I told them, the interviewers changed last minute, and I never had one main point of contact for the job. Someone gave me their business card at the office, and I thought they represented the company, but that wasn't the case. Because of how unorganized it was, I accidentally offended one of the hiring managers and missed out on the job.
- Can you tell me about something on your resume that you're particularly proud of?
