I got recommended for an interview by a professor at IIT. The interview felt hostile from the start. When I brought up my interest in sustainability, they laughed and said it gets value-engineered out. I also asked about a development project near the Chicago River, and the interviewer incorrectly stated they have no projects there and laughed, saying I must be thinking of another firm. I later checked their website and found the project they denied. I think the company should be ashamed of this interview process and the employees involved.

I had a video call with two senior leaders for an Architect role. It started off well with introductions and then we reviewed the first part of my portfolio. The interviewers then awkwardly stated they were expecting construction drawings in my portfolio, which felt like a presentation. This made it clear they were looking for someone to just do drafting work and didn't value creative or personal design input. I was glad to know this early on.
