First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Smithfield Foods.
Human Resources
I spoke with the recruiter, the hiring manager, a VP, and the people managing the plant. I liked the whole thing and the recruiter made it simple by sending me an agenda. I was surprised they didn't automatically offer a plant tour and I had to ask for it but it was alright, I got to see what they were up to.

R&D Scientist
Overall good interview process and positive experience. A little spaced on time-took a while to hear back from initial application, as well as between interviews. Final interview was on site and company paid for, overall good vibe from the company. Forthright, transparent, seemed a little easy. Job description was a little vague but it's R&D sciences for a mostly food company so understandable. Team was nice lab was great culture seemed solid. Offer was lower than expected despite initially providing range I would need, perhaps lowballing to see if I would take less, or expecting negotiation. It seemed like a good place to work. Would have liked to see more eagerness during hiring process and an offer that showed I was desired.
- Can you share your background skills and how you would fit in for the role?
Data Analytics Analyst
Started with a recruiter call about logistics and some technical questions on Power BI / SQL, which was a bit unexpected for a first call, lasted about 45 minutes. Then had an interview with the Hiring Manager and a Sr Analyst, focusing on behavioral questions, past experience, and discussing the role's needs, with very little technical stuff, this one was longer at about 75 minutes. The final interview was with the Department lead and another Sr Analyst, mostly behavioral, career-focused, and about the company, lasting around 45 minutes.
- Could you explain what DAX is?
- What is your understanding of Row Level Security?
- Can you describe what Joins are in SQL?
FSQA Supervisor
The interview process included a phone screen and then a video interview. I learned during the initial interview that working 10 hours a day for 6 days a week is standard. They mentioned programs to compensate for the extra hours. The work-life balance initiative offered was one Saturday off per month. This was presented as normal for the meat processing industry and unchangeable. I found this disingenuous, as Smithfield is a leader in the industry and could influence industry norms if they truly desired change.
- How would you handle a situation with competing priorities?
