I applied for the job on Jan 5th, 2025 and heard back the next day from the CEO's EA to set up an interview. We met on Jan 16th, 2025. It seemed to go well, and the hiring manager interview was set for Jan 27th, 2025. However, on Jan 24th, 2025, I got an email saying the hiring manager interview had to be postponed because of an urgent issue and that they'd let me know when the manager was back in the office. After that, I didn't hear anything until Feb 27th, 2025, about a month later. An HR Coordinator I hadn't communicated with before emailed to say the role had been filled. They mentioned I was a strong candidate but they chose someone with more closely aligned experience and background.

I applied and then 30 days later a recruiter emailed about a call with the Senior Director of Marketing Strategy. We discussed my background, and she asked about my HubSpot experience and conflict resolution. After 15 days, the recruiter contacted me again to set up a call with a Director of Marketing Strategy and to do the HubSpot practicum. During this interview, I created an email, two landing pages, and a social post while she asked questions about them. Three days post-interview, HR reached out with a verbal offer.

Behavioral Technical Case

I applied for the Inbound Marketing Coordinator role at SmartBug Media about a month back and I'm still not sure how I feel about the process. It was a multi-stage interview setup with different people from the company. I went through three rounds in total. The first two were with senior marketing directors, and the last one was with the VP of Client Operations. They also gave me a case study to do, but it wasn't really discussed during my application, other than when I asked about it during the first interview with a senior marketing director. Everyone I met was really professional and positive. The interviews were pretty easy, honestly, and the questions were kind of unusual, which made it fun. Right before my last interview, I noticed the job I applied for was gone from their website. That last interview was definitely tougher, with way more detailed questions about my HubSpot CRM experience, even though the job listing didn't require it and only preferred a certification (which I had). I got rejected the next day, saying they weren't moving forward with my Marketing Specialist application. The weird part is, I never applied for the Marketing Specialist role which asked for 5+ years of experience. I applied and interviewed for the Marketing Coordinator position, an entry-level job I was qualified for. I mentioned this to the hiring manager but didn't hear back. This, plus the case study not being properly reviewed, left me feeling mixed, despite the interviews themselves being great. I don't think they meant any harm though, and I'd still consider applying to SmartBug again.

Behavioral Case Presentation

The process started pretty good. I had 3 rounds of interviews in 10 days, one with the recruiter, then with a director and then with an AVP of Client Services. I even got a linkedin message from the CEO wishing me good luck. All the interviews were good conversations and thought there was good rapport so I was surprised I didn't continue the process and was sent a generic rejection email. The only reason I'm not assigning a positive experience is because I do believe for the time dedicated to interviewing and working on the practicum there should be a better explanation on why the candidate is not continuing the process.
