First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SHRM.
CRM Specialist
Had a phone screen with a recruiter about the job. They asked me general questions about my past work, gave a quick rundown of the position, and threw in some questions specifically about customer relationship management. The whole thing took about 20 minutes.
- Can you describe the most challenging integration project you've encountered?
Content Lead
I had a phone interview with a SHRM recruiter, and it went well. She asked me to send some clips to the hiring manager and said she'd follow up by the next Thursday. She even said, 'Even if there isn't an update, I'll get back to you on Thursday.' Well, Thursday passed without a response. The following Monday, I followed up, mentioning I was expecting a response the previous Thursday and wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything. It's been a couple of weeks, and still no response. SHRM isn't moving forward with my candidacy, but it's ridiculous they didn't even send a quick email to let me know.
- What is your understanding of SHRM?
- Can you describe your professional background?
Graphic Designer
The interview process was quite extensive, and I was engaged throughout. Everyone I spoke with seemed to be a well-coordinated team. My main concern is having to go through 5 interviews when I felt I had already secured the role. The position had been open for a while, and after reaching the final stages, it was unexpectedly announced that it wouldn't be a full-time role. This came as a surprise because it seemed like everyone was in agreement, and I connected well with the team. All the interviews were expedited within a single week. My suggestion would be to avoid posting a job opening and wasting a candidate's time if the position isn't going to be funded or made full-time. It felt like a letdown.
- What is your familiarity with Jira?
- Can you describe your experience with layout and design principles?
Recertification Provider Manager
There were two interviews for this role. First, HR did a quick 15-minute phone screening covering basic stuff like career goals, skills, and understanding the job. Then, there were two main interviews, each lasting at least 45 minutes. The first was with the Director and the Manager of Certification Operations, focusing on management abilities, daily work understanding, your background, team fit, and experience with the AMS software. The second interview was with the Chief Staff Officer, discussing strategic program plans, revenue generation, and managing a new business model. The vibe was really relaxed and interactive. If you're about 70% there on the job requirements, you'll feel comfortable.
- Can you share an instance of a staffing conflict you resolved, detailing the situation, your actions, and the result?
