Principal UX Designer
The interview process for a UX Designer role at Scopely was well-structured, thoughtful, and respectful of a designer’s time. It started with an initial 30-minute recruiter screen focused on background, role alignment, team needs, and logistics. The recruiter was transparent about expectations and did a great job setting the tone for the process. The next step was a portfolio review, which felt grounded in real-world product challenges rather than theoretical design exercises. I appreciated that the conversation centered on process, decision-making, collaboration, and impact, not just visual polish. There was a strong emphasis on how design partners with product, engineering, and analytics in a live-service environment. Following that, there were multiple interviews with the hiring manager and cross-functional partners, including product and engineering. These sessions balanced UX thinking, systems design, and behavioral questions, with a clear interest in how designers communicate trade-offs, handle ambiguity, and operate within fast-moving teams. Interviewers were engaged, prepared, and asked relevant, role-specific questions. The process moved efficiently overall, with clear communication and regular updates from the recruiter. Expectations around next steps and timelines were communicated upfront, which made the experience feel organized and professional.
- Can you describe a project where you had to balance player experience with business or product constraints, and explain how you navigated those trade-offs?
Software Engineer
This recruitment process was quite disappointing. I went through four rounds, including an assessment, a senior round, and a lead round, and got good feedback in all of them. But then, after the manager round, I didn't get any real response. Just a generic email saying my profile wasn't a good fit for the role's specific needs right now. It makes me wonder why I was moved ahead in all the previous stages if alignment was an issue. I thought I did well in the manager round too, and I'd really like some specific feedback. Some constructive criticism would be super helpful for me to improve and get ready for future chances. Waiting two weeks for multiple interview rounds and then getting such a vague rejection was really disheartening. I think they could improve the feedback and communication to make the candidate experience better and strengthen their hiring process.
- Can you discuss algorithms?
- What are your thoughts on time complexity?
- Show me some coding.
UX Designer
One of the worse interview processes I’ve ever come across. The email sent to me by the recruiter to schedule the first interview actually said the interview will be “interview-total-duration” as in she didn’t even bother to fill out the template email, what a joke. On top of that I never got updates in the process, I would just get an invite for the next interview weeks later until after the third interview I got a generic email saying my application had been reviewed and they’re not moving forward, like the email you’d get if you had just applied and hadn’t interviewed at all. What an unempathic company.
- Why are you interested in this role?
Project Manager/Producer
The selection process was a bit all over the place. First, I spoke with HR and they told me the job I applied for wasn't available, suggesting another role instead. Then, they contacted me again to say the original position was back on, which was confusing. The interview with the hiring manager was formal, but the atmosphere felt a little cold. I was hoping for a more open, two-way conversation to really grasp the team dynamics and what the role entailed.
- Can you share details about your professional background?
- What Project Manager strategies have you employed?
- Describe your approach when stakeholders don't respond as anticipated.
