I interviewed for the Monopoly GO! team. The first stage was with HR, who was super nice and explained everything. Then there was a home assignment where I had to write 4 SQL queries. It wasn't too hard, just needed to be simple and use the right JOINs. After that, I talked to the Head of Central Analytics about my past work and projects. We also did some small business cases about mobile marketing metrics. The second interview was with a Senior Data Analyst, mostly about my experience and why I want the job. The third interview was with two people from the team. They asked a lot about my past experiences and if I knew about SQL Window Functions and other basic data analytics stuff. I also had to come up with a marketing strategy using data for a game's soft launch. I didn't do great on that part, and I think that's why they picked someone else.

The interview process started with a recruiter call, then a call with the Hiring Manager (HM). I was told I wasn't successful because the HM didn't get a good sense of the impact my analysis had. This feedback was really surprising because I made an effort to check in and clarify project examples, explaining their purpose and impact. I even asked if they wanted to dive deeper into anything I'd discussed, which would have been their chance to flag any clarity issues. I also specifically mentioned the engagement and retention impacts of a feature improvement driven by my analysis. It felt like the feedback was for someone else's interview. To top it off, at the end of the interview, the HM started talking about next steps, like a take-home test (about 3 hours) and further interviews, saying someone would organize it. If they were planning to reject me, why talk about proceeding?
