First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Postlight.
Product Management Director
The candidate experience was top shelf. Bec, the company's lead recruiter, is both a rock star and an outstanding representative for Postlight. She guided the process effectively, set clear expectations re: procedural steps, demonstrated a deep understand of both the company's operations and needs, and was so timely with her responses that often times she had already booked next steps before I was able to send a thank you! Bec made me feel valued as a candidate and excited to join Postlight, and I appreciated her candor throughout the process. Since joining Postlight, the company and its culture has both met and exceeded the lofty expectations set by Bec. The process itself included an initial screening with Bec (recruiting), an interview with the hiring manager, a challenge/case study presentation (for which I was presented with a $200 gift card in recognition of my time), a leadership-focused interview with 2 members of the SLT, a collaboration-focused interview with members of the Design and Engineering teams, and an executive-level interview with Postlight's CEO and President.
- Can you share an instance where you needed to secure agreement from several stakeholders before proceeding with a plan?
Web Developer
The hiring process took a long time and felt disorganized. I heard back months after applying. First, there was a 30-minute interview with an engineer, who was nice despite a bad internet connection. Then, I received a coding challenge, with a promise of a gift card upon completion. I finished the challenge, meeting all requirements and ensuring the code worked, but was ultimately rejected. I'm unsure what they were looking for. What's frustrating is their unfulfilled promise of a gift card for the challenge, which they seem to brag about. Honesty would be better. It's also ironic that a web dev company lacks a confirmation message for code submissions. If you're very keen on the company, go for it, but if your time is valuable, consider other options.

Software Engineer
Applied and got a 30-minute call with an engineer pretty quickly. The first call was casual, asking about my experience and what I'd worked on, plus a couple of easy technical questions. At the end, they mentioned a compensated take-home assignment. I thought it was cool they valued our time, even if the pay wasn't full value. The take-home was pretty involved, asking for a full-stack app with a CRUD feature, covering backend, frontend, and design. I spent a whole weekend on it. After submitting, I was ghosted. No mention of the compensation or any feedback on why I wasn't selected. It felt unacceptable, especially since they brought up compensation and didn't provide feedback after days of work. I suspect they might use it for cheap labor. I'd advise anyone interviewing here to forget the compensation and expect to be ghosted. It makes you wonder how they treat employees if this is how they treat candidates.
- Can you explain what a component is?
- What SQL queries can you write?
- Tell me about your experience.
Product Designer
The hiring process was really efficient, streamlined and clear. The hiring manager reached out and coordinated a phone screen with the Head of Product design. The conversation was awesome and did not feel like an interrogation. She was genuinely interested in my experience and it didn’t feel like she was just reading from a script. I was invited to do the design challenge which was a good opportunity to show my design process. It was also not too lengthy and the brief was very detailed. Overall a very good experience! I ended up accepting another offer before moving to the in person interview, but thank you Postlight fir a cery rare positive experience!
