First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Plug Power.
Mechanical Engineer
The interview process was the usual: first a screening call with a recruiter, then an interview with a regular engineer, and finally a round with the hiring manager. They got back to me pretty quickly and the questions were pretty straightforward. Mostly about my past experience and some stuff about designing for manufacturing.
- Could you describe your design process for a part that needs to be manufactured, given a specific scenario?
- Given a scenario where you need to design a part for manufacturing, explain your design process and justify your selection of the manufacturing method.
HR Manager/Director
Virtual interview with the regional Recruitment Specialist. Virtual interview with the future N+1. Additional interview with a senior leader from the HRBP team. Possibly an interview with other stakeholders, like management members, managers of cross-functional teams, or key collaborators who work closely with the position.
- Can you recount a time you handled a difficult employee relations issue in a diverse setting, explaining how you used local laws to find a solution?
- Share an instance where you guided a manager through a disciplinary process or a legal dispute.
- In your capacity as HRBP, how did you oversee a major organizational shift, such as a restructuring or a merger?
Program Manager
So, it started with the application and resume submission. They posted the job, and I sent my stuff in. Then came the initial screening, where they reviewed applications and did a quick screening call. After that, it was the first round interview, which was a phone or video call. They mainly asked about basic skills, my experience, and if I'd fit in with the team. It also included some behavioral questions to see how I'd handle different work situations.
- Tell me about your resume.
- What's your understanding of this role?
- Explain each job role.
Human Resources Role
I got referred to Plug Power and had an interview with the team pretty fast. The interview was on video and had 3 employees with me. They structured it to be super intimidating, interrupting each other a lot. Mostly behavioral questions, jumping around. They said they wanted another interview and set it up. I followed up after the last one, but 3 months later, no word back. Really bad experience and recruiting process for a company that's growing and wants to get good people. Glad I didn't get the job.
- What makes you want to join Plug Power?
- Can you explain how your background aligns with the requirements of this position?
