First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Performance Food Group.
Finance Intern
We did an initial phone call that was more like a screening, with questions like 'tell me about yourself' and 'why do you want to work for us'. Then we moved right to a final interview where they asked technical questions about my resume and a few behavioral questions like 'tell me about a time'.
- Could you discuss a project involving coding and its results?
- Describe a situation where you encountered something relevant to this role.
Vice President
I had a phone interview for a VP role that went okay. But I realized my background wasn't the best fit and it wasn't what I was looking for. So, I'm not upset about not moving forward. What did surprise me was the automated rejection email. For a VP role, I expected something more personal, not just a generic email. It's a small thing to send a quick personalized note. Companies should remember that every candidate could be something more down the line. Guess I dodged a bullet!
- Can you tell me about your past experiences?
Logistics Analyst
Applied and interviewed within a week. The recruiter was really nice and stayed in touch throughout the process. I had 3 people on the interview panel: the manager, director, and senior director. The direct manager and senior director were both knowledgeable and acted professionally. However, the only male on the panel was hostile and had a bad attitude from the start, only interacting with me once at the very end when put on the spot. He just turned off his camera and muted himself. I felt his attitude showed insecurity. I don't think I would have accepted an offer because of this experience.
- Could you describe your typical daily responsibilities in your previous role?
District Manager
I had an initial phone call with the hiring manager, and then we set up an in-person interview for that same week. The interview was held at a hotel in the area, in the breakfast/dining part of the lobby. Two people interviewed me, and it seemed to go well. They told me on the spot that I was moving to the next round, which would be the following week. They said they'd let me know the date, time, and place and even gave me some topics to prepare for. I sent a follow-up email saying I was excited to talk again. After a few days of no response to my emails, calls, voicemails, and texts, I never heard back. It felt unprofessional to waste my time after saying I'd be moving forward. I wouldn't have minded if they just said they found someone better, but the lack of response after trying to contact them multiple times was disappointing.
- Can you describe your management styles?
- What management styles do you employ?
- What are your strategies for sales?
