First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pep Boys.
Project Manager
I had three phone calls with three different people, and they all went pretty well, giving me a good vibe about the company. It felt like we really clicked, and the last call seemed more like a formality before the Christmas/New Year break. In early January, I was told the job was filled and no one was hired.
- Tell me about your industry experience.
Customer Service Manager
It was a pretty simple process, assuming you have at least two years of experience managing service. Just be ready for constant changes without clear direction if you do accept the job. The interview itself was easy and fair, but the overall hiring process took a long time.
- Can you explain your process regarding cognitive behavior questions?
Executive Assistant
Had a couple of phone interviews and then an in-person interview. Seemed like it went well. After not hearing anything for a few weeks, I followed up with the recruiter. She said I was still being considered but they were talking to other candidates. We exchanged emails for about 10 minutes, and in my last email, I reiterated my interest, shared some ideas for the role, and said I'd wait to hear back. About five minutes after that, I received an automated rejection email, even though we were actively emailing each other. It was quite unexpected.
- Tell me about your experience with office support tasks.
Sales Associate
It was pretty straightforward. We started with a phone interview, and then they asked me to come in to talk with the hiring manager. It was very conversational. They asked what made me apply and what experience I had in the industry. They also asked common behavioral questions like tell me about a time you went above and beyond, and tell me about a time you wished you went above and beyond.
- What motivated you to apply for this role?
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded expectations?
- Describe a situation where you regretted not going the extra mile.
