Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pep Boys.
Mechanic
It was a standard interview process. They evaluated me on various tasks and skills. It was pretty typical. They asked me practical questions related to changing engine components and performing oil changes.
- How would you go about changing a crankshaft?
- Describe the process for performing an oil change.
Mechanic
I had to go talk to the service manager 8 times to try and get my paperwork done so I could start my job. He knew I was coming to do this, but he would still leave early, and I would waste gas driving there and back home. (I was working at a dealership in South Arlington, and this job was in Bedford on 121 and Harwood. I'd drive straight there after work, only to turn around and go back home to Arlington again with nothing accomplished.)
- What took you so long to get in to see me for the interview?
Mechanic
My boss asked me questions to check how good of a technician I would be if he hired me. He wanted to know how much experience I had, my work ethic, if I'm punctual, and about my previous jobs.
- What's your experience working on cars?
