Medical Sales Representative
The interview wasn't hard, but it felt uncomfortable from the start. During my phone interview with a director, it was obvious they were mostly judging me based on my resume, especially any gaps, instead of talking about my skills, experience, or how I could grow. This felt out of touch with the current job market and really limited what could have been a good conversation. Focusing on resume gaps and giving career advice right away was a downer and ignored that people have different career paths. While parts of the job fit my background and other parts would have been a learning experience, it seemed like they wanted someone who already had everything, with no interest in development or adapting. This expectation is good to know for others considering this role.
- Could you explain the reasons for any gaps in your employment history?
Accounts Receivable Specialist
A friend of a friend posted a job opening. I applied via LinkedIn and then the company website. Shortly after, I got an email with a link to watch a video about their culture and mission. I had one phone interview and two in-person interviews. First, a phone call with the Recruiter about the position details and my background. Then, a phone interview with the department manager, who discussed the role and asked about me. For the second interview, an in-person meeting with the department head. Before this, I had to fill out a full application and complete an assessment. They also sent me a book, "Smile & Move" by Sam Parker, to read before the final in-person interview, which focused on having a positive attitude. The company was very upfront, open, honest, and professional throughout the process, clearly explaining each step. I received a job offer the day after the last interview via email, with feedback that they were impressed with my character and how I carried myself. They seemed dedicated to ensuring it was a good fit for both of us.

Apply to this job if you are interested in wasting your time... Been in contact / interviewing for 2 months at Ortho. By the end of the 5 Interviews you will have - Written an essay on functional medicine - Read a 75 page book - Took a 120 question personality / IQ test - Created a presentation (10-15 minutes long) All for an entry level job by the way... The hiring managers were fine / asked standard questions. They are not the best with communication, I was told I would hear back before the weekend on a Thursday after the final(5th) interview. Ended up only hearing back when I reached out later - the following Monday. Asked a direct question about how I would match with the company and how the interview went. Received a programmed answer of "You're a good candidate, we really like you" so don't have high hopes.

Medical Sales Representative
The final interview was a really bad experience. Three senior sales execs were on the panel, and they showed up 20 minutes late. They commented on my rowing background saying it wasn't a 'sexy sport.' They were also critical of non-sales majors, suggesting it means you can't commit to a career path. They brought up a competitor with 2 years of experience at a company they wanted to refer me to. Even if they offered me the job, I wouldn't take it because there's some clear toxicity at the top and no women present.
- Would you accept an entry-level B2B sales role with a different company if it were offered?
- What would be your reasons for not continuing with your previous employer, given your apparent passion for that role?
