HR call. Then a hiring manager interview. Then a tech interview with coding involved. The whole process took about 3 weeks. They communicated clearly and the atmosphere was friendly. It was more of a discussion than a Q&A session. I learned a lot about the company, tools, and processes they use during the interviews.

I was first contacted by a contractor from an outside agency to schedule a phone interview. That call went well, so they moved me forward to an interview with the Director. The Director had to reschedule our chat last minute, but we eventually did the interview later. I also interviewed with a manager and a VP at the same time. After that, I had another interview with a different director because the first one wasn't available to talk again. In total, I had 4 interviews.

Coding

This was one of the worst interviews I've ever had; it felt more like a popularity contest than a genuine assessment. It was solely a coding interview, with no other discussions, Q&A sessions, or behavioral questions. There was no system design component either, and I didn't even get a chance to ask my own questions about the project. Even though I completed the coding task correctly, I wasn't selected because of subjective reasons, like their opinions on my code style. It was a complete waste of time, and I'd advise others to avoid it.

Technical Coding

First, there was a screener call with HR. Then, I had a call with the manager and two analysts. This call was surprisingly simple, as if they hadn't interviewed anyone before. After that, I interviewed at their office. It was an unwelcoming environment, and they seemed intentionally secretive about the process. The actual 'interview' involved a made-up Excel test and a SQL test. While the intent was good, the execution was poor. It was an unpleasant experience, with testing that should have been handled over the phone or via a standardized method. Their questions were also unclear. I guess that's typical for a less-than-stellar company.

  • Can you list and describe two distinct SQL joins?
  • What functionality does UNION provide?
  • Can you identify the errors in the provided query?
