First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OmniVision Technologies.
Design Verification Engineer
There were 4 rounds in total. The first was with a recruiter, and the following three were technical. The questions were pretty much based on the basics, not super specific to the field. They were mainly about verification planning, SV, UVM, and C. They were looking for someone with a background in performance verification as well as functional verification, which is why I didn't quite fit the requirements.
- Can you describe your approach to performance verification for a processor?
Staff Software Engineer
Started with an HR phone screen to set up the next steps. Then, there was a 45-minute supervised written C programming test. After that, I had an interview with the Manager where we talked about my experience and the C test. I also interviewed with a Senior Staff Engineer, which was pretty similar to the first interview. Finally, there was a wrap-up discussion with the Manager, and I got to ask some questions.
- Can you explain pointers and memory management in C?
- How would you implement a linked list in C?
- Could you demonstrate implementing algorithms in C?
Reliability Engineer
Had a call with the Hiring Manager, lasted 30-45min. We talked a bit about my reliability experience. The conversation mostly focused on 'working experience,' like if I knew specific details or numbers from specs, rather than problem-solving skills. Given their listed salary is lower than average, I suspect they're looking for someone who can handle data efficiently but might not need deep dives into complex issues.
- Could you tell me about the standards used in the Medical industry?
- What standards are applied in the Auto industry?
- Which standards are relevant for the Communication industry?
Digital Design Engineer
The interview process consisted of two main parts. Initially, I had a technical discussion, followed by a session with HR. The technical questions were fairly straightforward for me, and I believe anyone with relevant experience would find them manageable. The HR conversation, however, was extensive and challenging for me. They focused on assessing my psychological attributes, teamwork capabilities, and mentoring skills. Unfortunately, my performance in the latter area did not impress HR, and they decided not to proceed further with my candidacy. I suspect my mindset and perhaps being too candid played a role. I'll definitely learn from this experience.
- Describe your past work experiences, highlighting challenges faced and how you overcame them.
- What is your understanding of synchronization theory?
- Can you elaborate on the principles of binary logic?
