I applied online and then got an email from a recruiter. I sent a picture of my driving license and DBS check results, filled out an online form for my availability, had a site tour and an in-person interview which was about 5-10 minutes long. The whole process took about 3 weeks. The first two days were training in class, which was easy.

The interview process was quick and had 3 stages. It included a case study and two interviews with all the managers and a senior team lead. It was good to get to talk to all the managers. The interviews included a brain teaser.

The interview process felt rushed, with a senior person having another meeting scheduled shortly after. Some requirements, like a presentation of career, weren't clearly communicated beforehand, but the interview proceeded without it, as it seemed they were more focused on meeting criteria than seeking innovative ideas.

So, I did an online test and a video interview first. Then, I got invited to an assessment centre, which was like a half day thing in Hatfield. It had three parts. Everyone had to do a 10-minute presentation beforehand on whatever they wanted. That was the first bit, you give it to two people, and they ask you questions about it and also some competency stuff. Next up was a group exercise with Lego, where we had to design a warehouse based on a brief within 40 minutes with a group. The last task was a group pitch to a landlord to try and get them to rent their warehouse to Ocado over other companies. The organisation and building were really nice, but honestly, they need to make the interview part of the assessment day more consistent, like asking everyone the same questions. I got asked this weird question about where else I applied and which company I'd prefer, and then what I'd say if they asked me that at the other company. It felt unfair and put me on the spot, plus nobody else in my group got asked it! Other than that though, the employees were friendly, great culture, and lots of benefits.

  • What makes you want to work for Ocado?
