First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nordstrom Rack.
Copywriter
I applied online for a remote, part-time, flex copywriter job at Nordstrom Rack. A talent acquisition rep contacted me on LinkedIn to schedule a phone interview. During our chat, she went over the job duties, who I'd report to, and mentioned she'd pass my info to the hiring manager. If the hiring manager liked my profile, the next step was a 45-minute video call. My call with the rep was on a Thursday. She said I should hear back by the next Wednesday at the latest. On Wednesday morning, I got an email from her. She explained that the creative team had a reorg the day after our call, and the role was put on hold. She said she'd let me know if the role reopened and if I was still interested.
- Can you tell me about your background?
Sales Associate
I went to their career fair event which was scheduled from 11 AM to 5 PM. I got there around 2 PM. Although the email mentioned it would take about an hour, it actually took closer to 2 hours. A lot of the time was spent just waiting for my turn. It felt like they didn't have enough staff to interview everyone, which caused the long waits. Since they were interviewing for different departments, it probably got pretty hectic for the staff with so many people wanting to interview. But once I got to interview, it was pretty straightforward. They asked general questions about retail sales, how I interact with customers, and my teamwork skills. Since it's Nordstrom, dressing in fashionable business casual is recommended. They offered me the job right then and there.
- How would you drive sales when customer traffic is low?
Sales Floor Team Member
The interview process was not great. HR emailed me with date and time options for an interview. I didn't get the name of the interviewer. When I got there, the Assistant Manager didn't know I was coming or who would interview me. After about 10 minutes, she said she'd be doing a group interview with me and some other people. I wasn't told it would be a group interview beforehand.
- What are your available hours?
Assistant Manager
Honestly, the interview process can vary depending on the specific team, but it's generally not too demanding. The main goal is for the manager to get a sense of your personality. Expect a lot of situational questions, which might feel a bit repetitive. They'll also want to know if you align with the company's values. Towards the end, they usually discuss salary and wages, which is a nice touch.
- How would you foster an environment where your colleagues feel comfortable sharing their thoughts?
- Could you describe the type of person you are?
- Do you feel you align with the company's values?
