First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nomura Research Institute.
Manager
It was a quick and organized interview process, finishing in about two weeks. The recruiters kept me in the loop about what was next and when. First week: Talked to the recruiter for 30 mins, then had a 1-hour interview with a coworker, and a 1-hour written test. Second week: Another 1-hour interview with a coworker, a 30-minute chat with someone who would report to me, and a final 30-minute interview with the Chief of Staff. Got the offer soon after the last one.
- In what ways can you inspire leaders to adopt AI ethically and genuinely?
UX/UI Designer
I applied for a UX/UI Designer job in Jakarta and was asked to do a 60-minute aptitude test. I did the whole test, but then I was rejected right after. They said it was because there were too many applicants, not because of how I did on the test. It was annoying because they didn't even screen us first before making us do a test that took so long. It felt like they didn't care about my time or the applicant experience at all.
- Were there logic tests that aren't relevant to the job you applied for?
Intern
NRI FinTech came to our campus and held 3 rounds of interviews. First, there was an online test, then a technical round, and finally an HR round. They started with a Pre-Placement Talk which had important info. The online test had MCQs in 5 sections: General Aptitude (13 Qs), RDBMS (5 Qs), Data Structure (5 Qs), and optional Java (15 Qs) & C++ (15 Qs). General Aptitude was easy, RDBMS needed a little knowledge, and Data Structures were very basic. C++ and Java were optional bonus sections. Out of 508 students, only 45 got to the next round, and I was one of them. The technical round was mostly about Java, as that's their main language. The interviewer checked my resume thoroughly. They started with C questions on file handling, structures, and memory allocation. Then they moved to Java, asking about collections, operator overloading/overriding, data hiding, platform independence, compilation phases, and JDBC. Questions about the SDLC, Dynamic Programming, SQL (counting employees older than 25), Normalization, and pipe-lining were also asked. Around 30 out of 45 students passed this round, and I did too. After that was the HR round.
- Can you tell me how to read data from a file in C?
- What parameters does the fopen() function take?
- What is the return type for fclose()?
Solution Architect
I was contacted by a recruitment agency for a Solution Architect position at NRI. They arranged two interviews: one technical and one cultural. Neither interview was particularly challenging, but the interviewers lacked professionalism. In the first tech interview, there were no proper introductions, and during the second call, the interviewer seemed to be dozing off. Applying from overseas is not recommended as they were not serious about the role and it turned out to be a waste of time. Ultimately, I was informed that they were no longer hiring from overseas.
- The technical questions were generic and random.
- There were no serious or focused questions that required problem-solving.
