Copywriter
I was both nervous and excited during the interview process. I really wanted to show off my creative side, but I was a bit worried they'd hit me with some really hard strategic questions. Still, I saw it as a big chance to learn and show I've got what it takes to move up in the agency.
- Regarding a struggling product with poor brand perception, how would you craft copy that addresses these issues while also aiming to boost sales?
Sales Development Representative
I applied and then a recruiter called me for an HR phone screen. Then I had a one-way video interview. The last interview was a Skype call with a sales leader. The interviews were mostly behavioral or about my interest in sales. I liked the interviews but didn't hear back for two weeks. I emailed and called them twice but got no response. After four months, another recruiter emailed me asking if I was still interested. I said yes and asked why I never heard back from the first recruiter after three interviews. It's been two weeks since then and I still haven't heard back from the second recruiter. This whole experience has been awful and unprofessional, especially for a company like this. I feel disrespected and would not recommend News America to anyone.
- Tell me about your behavioral background and why you want to work in sales.
- What makes you want to pursue a career in sales?
Account Coordinator
After applying online, I got a call the next day to set up a phone interview with an HR person from the Chicago office. It was about 30-45 minutes, mostly getting to know me and asking about why I wanted to work at NAM, why sales, and how my experience fits. Basic company and sales stuff, really. I was ready for it and clicked with the interviewer, which set a good tone. Then, I went to the Chicago office for 4 interviews, each 30 minutes, with people from sales and HR. The questions were still mostly about sales, but they really dug into understanding NAM's products and services, so make sure you know that part well. Just be confident and show your sales experience, as that's what mattered most for me. I got an offer the same day! I'm not totally sure about their usual process though, as some reviews mention a full day interview at NY HQ first. Maybe it depends on when you interview, I was later in the year, but good to keep in mind!
- Can you tell me why you're interested in NAM and this Account Coordinator role, or the Sales Development Program?
- In your own words, how would you describe NAM, and what products and services do we offer?
- Tell me about your sales experience and how your previous roles have prepared you for this position.
Sales Development Program
It kicked off with a phone chat. Then, I was invited to the NYC office for face-to-face meetings with a bunch of HR folks. After clearing that stage, I got flown in again for a third interview. This one was a full day, meeting current Sales Development Program members and some execs. It was the toughest round, mainly due to how long it was. If selling their product isn't your jam, it shows by the end. HR was super helpful, and the execs made things comfortable, but the role wasn't really for me. I'd say it's key to be genuinely interested in what they sell. I did my homework, presented data, but realized that wouldn't be enough long-term.
